TikTok has an entire section dedicated to “golf widows,” or women who spend their weekends on the golf course ranting about their husbands, who play a mediocre round and then drink at a bar with their buddies. In the meantime, she’s trying to make the most of the weekend with her kids. Well, what are the times when families should be together?
Some may think this is humorous, but it’s actually not at all. One woman pointed out that this prevalence of golf is zero for women and wives. Seriously, think of an activity typically geared toward women (yes, we know women can play golf too!) that takes 4-8 hours a day, takes up a family weekend, and costs a lot of money.
“Golf really amazes me,” Sam Doll begins. “Because what on earth is the equivalent of a girl? … What’s like a generalized obsession that all women have and that all men hate? The idiots in the comments are going to be like, ‘This is just like women on reality TV.’ I’ll stop there. Reality TV, unlike golf, usually doesn’t take all day long…and it doesn’t cost that much money. I think it’s similar to golf, you can do anything without doing anything. ”
She continued, “The reason I bring this up is because A: Every couple I know fights about golf. Why? I don’t understand…why? Is he going to be a pro? Whenever we have kids, we’re just going to do some stupid million-dollar activity that I’m not very good at?”
She went on to say that she was inspired to make this comment because so many women complain about their husbands playing golf on TikTok.
“I’ve seen a lot of wives on TikTok just saying, ‘That’s what it feels like to be married to a golfer!'” You didn’t marry a golfer. If I had married a golfer, I would have been much richer. For some reason, I married a guy with shitty hobbies who culturally prioritized it. That’s so strange. I guess I’ll just have to start playing golf. But golf is boring and boring, and the clothes are tacky, so I definitely don’t want to play it. ”
After her video went viral, tens of thousands of people commented on Sam’s video and tried to brainstorm hobby equivalents to golf.
“I signed my kids up for golf! I can’t wait for them to play golf for hours without me while I stay home and watch reality TV. ,” said one mom.
One user said, “Women own or ride horses. 100%,” to which someone replied, “But there’s a big difference in the number of men who play golf and the number of women who ride horses (lol).”
Another said, “As a couples therapist, I’m convinced that golf may be the reason couples come to couples therapy.”
“Video games are even worse because you play 6+ hours every day and they cost money ,” another person pointed out.
One of the key points women made in the comments was that golf isn’t the only thing that drives men away for hours at a time. Several other male-dominated hobbies, such as fishing and hunting, consume time, energy, and money. And we’ve seen it before! Men’s hobbies are much more likely to take them out of the house alone for hours at a time, while traditional women’s hobbies often don’t take them outside the home.
