There are lots of costumes, corsages and boutonnieres, photos, and the inevitable last-minute details. But here’s what you can leave out: the vehicle. To unlock the promotion, parents simply add their teen to their family profile in the app. And while “free rides” is obviously a flashy headline, the real selling point here is that it’s still a level of control for parents behind the scenes.

With an Uber Teen account, you can add your teen to your family profile. This allows you to track your child’s rides in real-time, receive notifications, set spending limits, and see exactly who is driving your child. Just like with vehicles, there is a PIN authentication to ensure your teen gets into the correct car. Drivers must be highly rated and vetted, and trips are monitored in real time for unexpected stops or route changes, with authorities alerted if something appears to be amiss. Parents can also contact the driver if necessary.

A big bonus for parents of teenage daughters? Uber’s Women Preferences feature is rapidly expanding and recently rolled out to 26 new U.S. cities. For example, we live in Charleston, South Carolina, and whenever I book a ride for my teenager, I always request or have the option to reserve a female driver in advance.

And Uber isn’t just leaning into the safety factor. Since it’s prom, they’re also leaning toward fun.

Teens who want to attend prom in style can upgrade by booking an Uber Black or Uber Black SUV at least 90 days in advance. These vehicles are Uber’s premium luxury rides, meaning they’ll be luxury cars and have drivers with top-rated professional certifications.

In another fun seasonal touch, UberX and Uber Black icons are getting a prom-themed makeover in select markets for teenage account users.

“Prom season is full of unforgettable moments,” said Marisa Siegel, Uber’s head of growth and engagement. “We use Uber Teen Accounts to invite teens to prom so they can celebrate with friends, enjoy the evening in their own way, and give their parents peace of mind along the way.”
