The expansion of Toys”R”Us and Babies”R”Us stores comes just in time for the holiday season.
TORONTO, Sept. 7, 2023 /CNW/ – Just in time for the busy holiday season, Toys”R”Us Canada is expanding its entertainment universe across Canada with the opening of 10 stores, including two new standalone Babies”R”Us stores – the first of their kind. Customers will also be able to find Toys”R”Us stores in all the new rooms + spaces boutique spaces, which opened their doors at the beginning of summer across the country. The expansion totals more than 300,000 square feet of sales space and increases the number of locations operated by the beloved toy retailer to 105 across the country, providing greater access to Canadian gift-givers and parents looking to check items off their gift lists with ease this season.
Recently, the Retail Council of Canada reported that 81% of Canadians preferred to shop in their local businesses rather than online. This is almost twice as much as in 2022 (41%). As more and more Canadians return to stores during the holiday season, Toys”R”Us Canada is responding to this demand by opening eight Toys”R”Us stores, as well as two stand-alone Babies”R”Us stores in Edmonton. Although the majority of these stores are new, Toys”R”Us is excited to return to communities like Kamloops, British Columbia.
“I believe the Canadian consumer is looking to go out and shop in-store again. So I see a great opportunity to invest in Canadian retail. Our recent lease acquisitions allow us to return to markets where we were already present and access new ones where we see potential to meet greater demand,” says Doug Putman of Putman Investments.
To introduce their new store to every community, Toys”R”Us and Babies”R”Us Canada will host a grand opening celebration October 13-15 with a ton of exciting activities – like only a real toy store can – including face painting, balloon artists and interactive toy demonstrations, as well as deals, bonuses and visits from your favorite characters, like Bluey, Cocomelon, Peppa Pig, Elmo and The Cuddly Bears!
“These grand openings couldn’t have come at a better time,” says Nick Muriella, vice president of merchandising and supply chain. Our team has worked hard to bring our customers the best deals on the most sought-after toys and baby items. “We will have a well-stocked inventory of the season’s must-have toys, allowing our customers to get a head start on their holiday gift shopping.”
Doors have gradually opened throughout the summer and will continue to do so this fall, with all openings completed just in time for the holiday shopping period. The new Toys”R”Us and Babies”R”Us stores are located in the following cities:
