Last year, we analyzed some of next year’s most popular baby names, including “fast fashion” baby names such as Amilia, Rainy, and Lakelyn for girls and Adael, Aidan, and Riette for boys. But what will be the name of the baby leaving the hospital? BabyCenter looked at what dropped the most in 2024 and found something pretty surprising.
Years ago, baby names ending in “-aden” (Jaden, Hayden, etc.) continued to decline over time, with Jayden dropping 162 places. Jaden was one of the most popular names in this trend when it peaked at #62 in 2002.
It seems that her parents are also thinking about the royal family. Names such as Catherine, Anne, Philip, Albert and Edward each fell more than 100 places on the list, with Catherine in particular falling 221 places.
Fashion from the ’80s and ’90s may be going strong (thank you, Gen Z!), but some of the most popular names from those decades seem to be holding on. outside of style. Jamie was a top 100 name from 1974 to 1996, but in 2024 it became the girl’s name that fell 320 places to the top. Other millennial girl names that have gone out of fashion include Erin, Kelsey, Chelsea, Kendra, and Alexis. Furthermore, Taylor, which was in the top 100 boys’ names from 1988 to 1997, dropped 199 places among boys’ names.
