Breaking news: Children keep saying “six, seven” outside Towards 2026, according to one teacher and her fifth grade students. I’m so grateful for this, but I can’t bear to hear those words again at home, so I’m now curious about what else in our lives is “outside” to our teens. We all owe a debt of gratitude to @emilylaurann, TikTok content creator and 5th grade teacher. Because she surveyed the class to get all the details.

As she said, “six-seven” is done and completely out. According to the kids, they’re all excited about 2016.

“They were so excited when I told them I was a sophomore in high school in 2016,” she said.

At the beginning of the year, everyone and their moms were posting pictures of themselves 10 years younger – from 2016. But here a question arises. “How old were these children in 2016?” Were they born?

Next, the slang terms “Sigma” and “Sigma Boy” also appeared. “Skibity” is also available.

“Obviously they said it was So 2024,” she joked, noting that according to her students, Italian Brain Rot and Steal Brain Rot are both out as well.

“They said it was more for second and third graders,” she elaborated.

Another thing that educators say “is” is to describe something as “bad” when it actually means “good.” This is nothing new, but it’s interesting to see young people embracing it.

When it comes to social life, the phrase “Liz” still holds true among teenagers, but the “Liz line” is outdated. I Googled what that meant and apparently it’s just another term for “pick up line.” The OP also mentions that kids say “has” instead of “girlfriend” or “boyfriend.”

“Then ‘hus’ comes in, and so does the haz group chat. They have a haz group chat with a bunch of couples, and I don’t get it,” she says defeatedly.

Other things that are “in” according to the 5th graders are:

  • Birkenstock clogs
  • Nate Bergatze
  • stranger things
  • The word “modest”
  • be kind
  • quarter zip up
  • Matcha
  • country music

Other things that are “out” according to the 5th graders are:

  • birkenstock sandals
  • Grow a garden in Roblox
  • squid game
  • K-POP Demon Hunter (“That’s for babies.”)
  • “Your Mother” Jokes
  • fluffy hair
  • low taper fade
  • “burn someone”, i.e. to be mean to someone
  • kansas city chiefs
