We hear a lot at the moment about people’s disdain for parents and children who fly. Some of these complaints are legitimate (i.e., parents are just letting their kids do what they want), and some are entitled people who just don’t want to live in a world with kids. Traveling with children, especially by plane, is a sensitive subject that is bound to generate some differing opinions.
So when someone posted a photo of an airplane wall completely covered in children’s stickers in a thread, people had a pretty visceral reaction.
A user in the thread wrote: “So what were parents doing when their kids were doing arts and crafts on the plane?”
After the post gained traction, thousands of parents took to Reddit to speak out in defense of what they called “stickergate.”
One mother wrote: “We survived, ma’am, we survived.”
“People always complain about kids being noisy, but they still complain about things that make them quiet,” another pointed out.
One Threads user pointed out that these stickers are the kind that come off very easily, saying, “Your child is quietly having fun and the stickers come off so easily.”
“Imagine your child getting off the plane and being angry because they have a sticker on it. Everyone is so miserable,” another wrote.
One user pointed out that the general public has no respite for families.
“I have a special needs child. She messed up on the plane because of the treats. But the treats keep her from making so many loud noises. By the end of the flight, she starts screaming and everyone is trying to get us off the plane. The seats are so tight that we have to make sure we have all our belongings.” I can barely reach up to make sure it’s clean. I know I made a huge mess with the snacks. We’re doing the best we can, but it’s much harder in my life to make sure my daughter is okay on the plane. “Give grace to families with kids,” she wrote.
However, some do not have I was struck by the child’s abstract airplane art, especially the idea that his parents left the plane there when they got off the plane.
“And mothers wonder why people hate them and their children.”
“Since you made the choice to have a child, you must be responsible for cleaning up after your child.”
“Is leaving stickers for someone else to clean up like survival? If survival means leaving a mess for someone else to clean up, then maybe some people shouldn’t be parents.”
One user said: “They shouldn’t have left it behind. This isn’t their home. Parents need to clean up that shit before they get off the plane.”
One user summed it up perfectly, writing, “Your choice: arts and crafts or a crying child. Choose wisely.”
Two things apply here, right? Children should be allowed to exist in this world to have fun and do childish things like play with stickers on airplanes. and Parents should go after their child making a mess, assuming that’s what’s happening in this photo.
